WASHINGTON – Winter Gardens Quality Foods recalled around 3,710 lbs. of chicken salad products that could contain extraneous plastic materials according to the US Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Feb.  16.

The company was notified of the problem by its oil supplier. They noticed a packaging defect that could lead to contamination when plastic pieces flake or break off in the soybean salad oil used in the chicken salad.

The chicken salad items were produced between Jan. 28 and Feb. 11 and were shipped to a Pennsylvania distributor for further processing and eventual distribution.

The 10-lb. bulk plastic tubs contained “Southwest Chicken Salad” with “Use By” dates: “2/18/16,” “2/19/16,” “2/23/16,” “2/25/16,” “2/26/16,” and “3/3/16.”

Another recall involved Canyon Creek Soup Co. The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based company recalled approximately 7,275 lbs. of meatball soup products on Feb. 13 that were not presented for inspection at the US border. This recall involved 291 cases of products, each containing 10, 2.56-lb. plastic soup package kits labeled “Vietnamese inspired Pho Bo Vein.” Placed in the packages were broth with meatballs, rice noodles, sriracha packets, and hoisin packets. The establishment number is “EST. 422” inside the USDA mark of inspection. All of the products were shipped to retail stores in California.
